The way to make this happen is avoiding every unnecessary movement while playing, as seen in the video from the great Alicia de Larrocha, just being still and smiling. Such a wonderful artist she was. Absolutely marvelous!

This one and the rendition by Horowitz are definitely the best intepretetation i've ever heard

This really is perfect. Not rushing to the finish line like many try to do with this piece and achieving the utmost in musicality. The minimal use of pedal showcases just how outstandingly clean and brilliant this performance is.

I can definitely see how Lang Lang was inspired by this performance. He tries to capture the same lightness she has with the piece. But after listening to her recording, sorry Lang Lang 😅

The best interpretation I've heard of this piece

I’m not surprised how good this is. I’m surprised that she would play such a shameless showpiece. I’m a Liszt fanatic but this piece I never liked playing. She tries and succeeds at making it into music. Bravo, Alicia! This recording actually encourages me to try it out again and see if I might like it better now. It’s always seemed like a piece for a teenager or young college student who gets excited by the empty virtuosity.

A great woman

One thing I noticed she does here and in the 1968 Carnegie performance is she adds another measures worth of the Bmajor octave arpeggios at the final fff @8:18. Such a cool addition.

Pity about the from-the-back-of-the-hall quality of the sound, as the performance sounds fine--worthy of Surinach, who brought a Stravinskyite sensibility to bear on his native flamenco roots. It must be a decade since anyone's released any recordings of his music. He's long overdue for proper attention.

Alicia was the greatest female pianist ever. I have her recording of Albeniz Iberia, and it it is the best ever!

I would have a feeling there might have been a wrong note or two cleaned up in the studio. I wish they would have left them in. That said, Alicia goes down as one of the best in the 20th Century.

My word!!! I had three days looking pianist playing this fantastic piece of music. No one has play it like her. Perhaps Hofmman or Lhevinne ... Like this much more. My personal opinion of course.
